Current Graduate Student
As an continuing student we'd like to remind you that the primary goal of our office is to assist you in financing your UCI education.
We invite you to explore our website and our campus. We hope our web resources help you find the assistance you need in meeting the costs of your Irvine education. We encourage you to also explore the resources available through the Office of Graduate Studies. Their office provides an extensive list of funding opportunities and resources available to graduate students.
Please make sure you check your "My Aid" file to verify the status of your application. And, don't forget to read any important messages we send to you via e-mail.
The financial assistance for graduate students differs substantially when compared to the types of funding available to undergraduate students. Graduate student funding at UCI is usually of one or more of the following types:
- Fellowships (Internal and Extramural Grants)
- Federal and/or Private Loans
- Teaching and Research Assistant Employment Opportunities
Graduate students seeking information about receiving financial support are strongly encouraged to speak with the academic departments or professional school to which they have applied and/or been admitted. To be considered for the specific federally subsidized loan programs listed below, all domestic (e.g., non-foreign) graduate students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Federal Subsidized Direct Stafford Loan need-based
- Federal Unsubsidized Direct Stafford Loan non-need-based
Similarly, if you are offered a UCI fellowship and you are a U.S. resident, you must complete a FAFSA prior to receiving any funding.
Please note that foreign students are not eligible for need-based financial aid. Therefore, foreign students should not complete a FAFSA. All graduate students - domestic and foreign - are eligible to receive university fellowship funding and/or employment as a teaching assistant or graduate student researcher.
Deadlines for various graduate awards can vary widely. Because many deadlines occur early in the academic year, it is important to obtain information and application materials as early as possible. Students should also seek out and apply for external scholarships/fellowships whenever possible. Prospective students are encouraged to visit the Office of Graduate Studies' "Financing Your Graduate Education" web page for additional funding information.
We wish you the best in your academic endeavors.
