Eligibility Requirements:

The ASH Minority Medical Student Award Program (MMSAP) affords medical students the chance to learn about the field of hematology, gain first-hand research experience, and get valuable guidance from both a research and career development mentor.

The MMSAP is part of the Minority Recruitment initiative, which was created to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in hematology.

The MMSAP is designed to introduce minority medical students to hematology and hematology research through the following 8- to 12-week research options, Summer research experience, or Flexible research experience.

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a MD, DO, or MD/PhD medical school program.
  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
  • Must be underrepresented minority in health-related sciences in the United States and Canada. This includes American Indians or Alaska Natives, Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, Native Hawaiians or Other Pacific Islanders, African Canadians, Inuit, and First Nation Peoples.
