Cal Grants

Cal Grants are awarded on the basis of financial need and do not have to be repaid. Cal Grants are provided by the state and are awarded to students who demonstrate the greatest financial need and have completed their financial aid application by the published deadlines.

  • California residents or meet AB540 criteria
  • All full- and half-time undergraduate students in a degree program
  • File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Application by March 2 preceding the award year
  • Send GPA verification to the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) by March 2, 2019
  • After the initial award year, you must file a FAFSA/California Dream Application each year to continue to receive the grant
  • Awarding Criteria is set by the state of California and the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC)
  • Cal Grant A and B are based on financial eligibility and GPA
  • Student must meet annual income and asset maximums set by CSAC
  • Cal Grant A fees: $12,570
  • Cal Grant B fees: $12,570
  • Cal Grant B Stipend: $1,672 (Cal Grant B pays stipend only in first year. Subsequent years include fees.)

* Amounts are set by the state government and are subject to change at any time. You must be enrolled full-time (12 or more units) to receive the full grant and enrolled at least half-time (6 or more units) to receive a prorated amount.

Cal Grant funding is limited to four academic years. In order to graduate in four years, you must complete 45 units or more per year.

We suggest that you create a plan with your academic counselor to ensure you will graduate in four years.

  • FAFSA/California Dream Application and GPA Verification form must be filed by March 2nd
