Thinking about Summer Session? There are a range of financing options available for Summer Session, including loans and grants designed to help you cover the costs of your schooling.

Here’s a breakdown of your financial aid options, costs, and other important things to know.

Once you've enrolled in a minimum required number of units, you may be eligible for the following financial aid programs. Just keep in mind that the type of student you are determines the type of aid you could be up for (more on that later).

When it comes to Summer Session financial aid for graduates students, it’s all about the Direct Loan. Once you've enrolled in a minimum required number of units, you can choose from an Unsubsidized or a Graduate PLUS Loan. If you had eligibility for loans during the academic year, we encourage you to utilize those funds to assist with your summer costs.

How do I receive financial aid for Summer Session?


Let's break down the steps, whether you're an entering freshman, continuing student, entering transfer student or graduate student.

Important Dates and Deadlines


June 19 -  Awarded financial aid must be accepted in order to pay fees

June 22 - Summer I and 10-Week:  Financial aid disbursement/refunds available by EFT/checks

June 30 - Deadline to complete FAFSA for 2025-26 Academic Year

July 20 - Last day to accept summer aid (if enrolled in only Session I)

August 3 - Summer II:  Financial aid disbursement/refunds available by EFT/checks

August 21 - Last day to accept summer aid for 10-week Session (if enrolled in Session 1 and 10-week Session, or 10-week Session only)

August  28 - Census date for determining units for Pell, Cal and TEACH grants for the Summer term

September 4 - Last day to accept aid summer aid for Summer Session II

What if your enrollment changes?


If you make changes in enrollment, including dropping units or changing sessions, you may be billed for the funds you’ve received. If you withdraw from all Summer Session classes, you’ll be billed for the financial aid you received. You’ll still be responsible for the non-refundable campus fee and all other applicable non-refundable fees. Enrolling in additional classes or sessions won’t increase your financial aid eligibility. Ask your financial aid counselor how an enrollment change will affect your summer aid.

Once Summer term has started, if you will be withdrawing for the Summer term, please visit our office and speak with a counselor for guidance.

Paying Fees


  • Enroll in Summer Session classes.
  • Enroll in at least six units (unit requirements may vary by aid program).
  • Accept your financial aid on time.
